I had an e-mail conversation with my daughter's kindergarten teacher about phonics. Towards the end, she said my daughter is "very shy." My daughter is shy - sometimes. I would rather the teacher had said that she is shy when she asks her to sing with the other children. Am I the only one who sees the difference? A person can carry a label with her for the rest of her life - thinking she has to act a certain way because that is who she is, instead of how she sometimes acts. I have had adults tell me right in front of my daughter that she is shy...it really makes me mad.
