do they bring their own lunch, or do they eat the school lunch? does your school have special restrictions or cater to special diet or anything like that?
our school district is required to provide a special diet meal if the parents request it and they also require at least a half cup of fruit or vegetables to be on a tray for the kids to be able to get their hot lunch. there are lots of fruit and veggie options and the kids get to pick.
my daughter brings her own lunch. she has celiac disease and even thought the school is required to prepare something for her if we want them to, i just dont trust the prep behind it and everything would be careful enough for her to not get sick from a gluten cross contamination.she enjoys bringing her lunch. today she had a chocolate soy and raspberry preserve sandwich on gluten-free bread, baby carrots, a side of ranch for dipping, a fruitables juice box, and a colby jack cheese stick.
Proud mom of an ornery 3 year old boy, a very smart 6 year old girl! Married for 4.5 years, together for 7! Fun loving, open-minded, eco-friendly, creative, friendly, different strokes work for different folks, lady! I stay at home, work at home, love it all!
My son does a little of both. He will take if there isn't anything that he likes. I am not sure about special meals or diets since my son doesn't require it.
Quoting Moyzila:Kayla hasn't started school, yet, but she'll be bringing her own lunch 3 times a week, and at the cafeteria lunch twice a week.

ds will buy school lunch unless he doesnt like it, like today they had meatball sandwich he didnt want that so he packed. they get good lunches at school though. he has no special diet unless u count being a picky eater a special diet lol
My kids do both- buy some days and take others. We go over the menu, and, using a diff. color highlighter for each kid, mark which days they want to buy.
There aren't any restrictions, but they do have a nut-free table, and all kids who have peanut butter or other nuts for lunch have to get in a separate line to go wash their hands before heading out to recess.

For the most part, ds brings his lunch. Very occasionally he will buy lunch. The school does provide healthy options to meet most dietary needs, but I prefer to pack his lunch and know what he's eating.
