The truth about
Santa
Easter Bunny
Tooth Fairy...
A post got me thinking. My son 7 and I want him to keep that innocence a bit longer...He asked about santa...and I told him that I wouldnt be able to afford all the presents under the tree..
Now before you get on my case for my lying...My son knows about the fact we are at war. that I have lost friends that I wrote to. So am I wrong for wanting him to remain a kid about some stuff??
I know I will take a lot of flack for this. For some reason, people get really offended about this as if I am doing something unspeakable to every child in the world, but my kids have never believed in Santa or the Easter Bunny. Those are religous holidays for us and they are taught about Baby Jesus and the Resurrection. The nod we give to Santa is to teach them about St. Nichlolas.
Ex: DS asks "is Santa real?"
You respond "well, do YOU think he is real?"
Something like that. I believed in Santa till I was 11 lol!
My neighbor told her kids from the beginning. She said she didn't want to "lie" to them...I think of it more as letting them believe in magic for a little while. It's really the only time in life you get that. However her DD says things that make my DD question it...which sucks because she's only 5 but too smart for her own good.
My 8yo still fully believes though, no matter what anyone tells her. I actually never told them about Santa, Easter Bunny, etc...she just came up with it from school and TV
My children heard from other friends and asked me! My older children figured it out on their own around 10 or 11 and my younger two they just told me this last Christmas that they knew the truth! they still get Santa, tooth fairy, Easter eggs and baskets, but we now do it in the spirit of celebrating the Holidays and events in life! It broke my heart to hear it! When my DD was 7 she asked me because some kid in her class didn't celebrate and said there was no Santa and I simply told her if you do not believe you do not receive that was enough at the time! Let kids be kids and learn as they grow! i do not consider it lying it is being imaginative and keeping your child a child for as long as possible!
