moms with kids going in to kinder (or who have already started)
I had to take ds2 and dd b/c they were in the p.m. class and there is no mid-day bus service, but they rode the bus home w/ no problems.

My kindergartner rides the bus. BUT she also has 3 older siblings that ride it in the morning with her. Only 1 of them rides it home (the oldest two go to a different school and they walk home or I pick them up because it's super close to our house). Mine have all rode starting in Kindergarten, but I live in a very small town and the bus driver knows my kids by name. She would never let them off at the wrong place. I'm sure I would of had way more anxiety in a bigger town.
our school has a special kinder bus that only they ride. the bus drops them off & picks them up in front of their house. the bus can NOT drop off a child without an adult present. there is also a bus aide that will get off the bus & look for parents who are not right there. we never had any problems & our kinder bus driver was AWESOME. he always had litte prizes for for good kids ( which ended up being every kid every time LOL) little dollar store things they could pick out of prize box when they got off the bus. my kids ( 4th & 10th grade now ) still talk about Mr Cecil..in fact the whole neighborhood does. it sucks to go from him to regular bus driver for those 1st graders tho ..they are not as fun LOL
When oldest went to Kinder (now entering 2nd grade) he rode the bus all the time and we had no problems. He did just fine with it and figured out the routine pretty quick. Now my youngest is entering Kinder and will also be riding the bus. He has the benefit though of riding with older brother, who has already stated he will stick close to little brother for the first couple weeks until he gets the hang of it.
Try not to let internet stories scare you. Try to find out instead the record of your own bus company, and their policy for how to handle different situations. Your own child's bus company is really the only one you need to be concerned about.
Plus they're able to get extra sleep.
Quoting hotmomofmakayla:My daughter is a car rider. We feel she is just to young to ride the bus this yr. If she wants to ride the bus nxt yr or in 2nd grade we will let her.
my dd just started yesterday. she goes every other day. tomorrow she will ride the bus to school and I will pick her up. I would say talk to the school to see how they organize, and load kids on the bus. Our school has us fill out a form that, and then the kinders get a name tag that shows what bus and the bus drivers name. We live in a tiny town though. My two older sons will also be on the bus with her so they will keep an eye on her. Is there any kids that get on and off her bus stop that you trust? If so, talk to their mom, and see about having their child buddy up with your kid till she gets used to riding the bus.
My kids have never rode a bus my dd is 11 and my ds is 5! Seat belts and booster seats are a requirement in my van they should be on a bus.
