The learning center is closed tomorrow but it is still a homeschool daay.

I'm another SAHM who, therefore, has to work. lol  My boys do have school.

I personally find it odd that we have a day off of school to celebrate things like Columbus Day (aside from the absurdity of celebrating that particular holiday).  It would make more sense to me if the kids were in school learning about whatever we are celebrating - President's Day, MLK Day etc.

I love Columbus Day, it's my birthday! But I think Dia de la raza is a better way of putting it, a celebration of the great meltingpotness that are the Americas now, rather than of the start of all the conquering and disease-sharing.
