You need to call the school and ask.

My doctor can't give the shots before the child's birthday because insurance won't cover it.

Is the first time they've told you? Are you sure it wasn't part of the registration material?

I'm guessing it was in the "fine" print of all the paperwork you filled out to register her. Kindergarten shots can be given anytime between a child's 4th-6th b-day, so the school can require it. You'll have to call and ask them for an extension.

My guess is that it was in the paperwork, but at the time you didn't pay attention to it because she wasn't that age yet.  Now she is and rules are rules.  There are MANY free shots available.  Check on line.  Most drug stores and a lot of retailers that have pharmacy's give them, as well as, the fire department.

Call the school and ask them and tell them your dr says he can not. It will be fine.
