Today my daughter brought home a paper to confirm the time of her report card conference...on the paper was written, in all capital letters and underlined several times, "2nd Notice" which seemed a bit rude to me but what really annoyed me is this is the 2nd time I've returned the confirmation to school.
In the last few months I've received other little notes claiming something wasn't returned or responded to that was in fact returned. I've received notices about missing library books and reading packets which I knew for a fact were returned and within a few days of getting those notices the missing items would suddenly be sent home with my daughter proving the items were at the school the whole time but misplaced by either the teacher or another adult in the classroom assuming that the teacher still follows the routine she claimed she follows in the classroom which is that the children place their school folders, books, and other returnable items onto the teacher's desk first thing in the morning.
I'm not normally a confrontational person, but the rate at which I'm getting these notices insinuating that I am the one losing items is a bit ridiculous and I often wonder how many other parents get these notices. It seems a bit rude to me to confront the issue as I understand it's not easy running a class full of 6 and 7 year olds but it seems the teacher would have an easier time if she were to recognize that she or someone helping in her class is the one that can't seem to keep track of school materials and change routines to ensure that everything is accounted for.
What would be an easy way to go about bringing up this subject to the teacher? I don't want to seem like I'm telling her how to run her class but considering that the items going missing are important to the lesson you'd think it in some way impacts her ability to teach the class. I've thought about volunteering, but again I wouldn't want to seem like a bitch by telling the teacher what changes to make or seem like I'm taking control of the class by being there as I have no experience teaching and besides that with my schedule I wouldn't be able to be in the class for more than a day or two every month.
