I never heard it referred to as a "kindergarten shooting", I heard it at first as a school shooting and later as an elementary shooting.

My initial thought was "what the F$& is wrong with people".

I didn't even want to send my kids to school

I was in pure shock. I heard it was an elementary school first then I heard the death count and ages of the children. I just wanted to come home and hug my kids and never let go.

I happily sent mine off to school.

That being said, I will NOT enter into a debate about the safety of our schools, etc.  That is a dead horse that has been beaten to a pulp IMO.

There is a Newtown about 45 from me and my friend teaches there. As awful as it sounds, my first thoughts were "I'm glad it wasn't here" and my 2nd thoughts were "why??????"

My heart sank deeply.  I actually cried all the way to work as the story was unfolding.  My son is that age :( :(.  All I could think of is that guy shooting children like him :(.

My first and main thought is that those families must be suffering terribly.

I had no inclination to stop sending my kids to school. After the movie theater shooting I didn't stop going to movies. I don't stop going to the bank after a bank robbery. I don't stop driving after a car wreck. Life is full of risks. Tragedies like this can happen no matter what we do to protect our kids.
