So this is what my 7 & 6 year olds ( boys) have been saying lately, and I forbid it, just as songs with references to it. Example: Gangnum Style. Now, if sexy doesnt mean what it used to, perhaps I am wrong? It IS all over TV, even an M & M commercial. Thanks for your take and advice.

Have you asked them what they think it means?   I am still confused on how something being "sick"means it is cool.  I never was one for slang.

Pretty much is interchangeable with beautiful and attractive. The word doesn't bother me at all.

Yes they think it means the same as beautiful or nice looking. What do you mean by something being "sick" means cool?

I am wondering if I am in the dark ages.

I don't allow my son to say anything is "sexy".

My boys are 8 and 10. That word has never come out of their mouths. Call me prudish but that is shocking to me. I can't imagine id let it continue if they did say it.

I think we all are to a point LOL.

But, I guess it has turned into an "endearing" term.  I have heard "sick" meaning cool.....I've heard so many words for that, I guess you could turn any word into meaning "cool" LOL

I had a women yesterday look at my 18 month old DS wave and say "hi, sexy!"  Made me raise an eyebrow.  We just ignored her...it was a little weird.  But to answer your question, yes I think "sexy" is used now to compliment and say someone is beautiful or good looking.  I still think it's weird.

My boys too have learned this word from the same song - they love the song! And it is pretty funny to watch them dance to it. I asked DS (age 8) one day if he knew what sexy meant and his response was "hot", so I said what does "hot" mean, and he said "pretty".

I don't know how I feel about it. I dont remember knowing what "sexy"meant at age 8, but the times and music were different then.

My 7 year old was singing "I"m sexy and I know it"  Yep, I put a stop to that!
