How do you define.....

An argument VS a debate?

IMO, an argument is a fight, without facts and without merit, that makes both parties angry and hostile. A debate is two opposing parties stating their opinions on a subject in a mature manner with no hard feeling at the end of the conversation.

Your definition is spot on.  Anger comes from feelings.  Debate comes from facts.

Both sides keep relatively calm during a debate, whereas emotions tend to get in the way during an argument.

Thank you! :)

Dictionary.com uses them as synonyms.

An argument can be used in a debate. For example, on party argues the merits of kindergarten retention, while another party argues the practice's detriments.

If someone is asking for advice or support why would an argument or a debate even be a part of that conversation.

I agree with you. I find this forum to be good with debates...many others just argue.

Your definition is exactly how I define it as well.
