This is our first year being in the school system. My kids are in 1st and 2nd grade. We would like to make or buy their teachers a gift because they've been wonderful!

What are good gifts for teachers and what should be avoid?

Gift cards to restaurants, coffee, etc.  are awesome.  DON'T give coffee mugs or knick knacks.

A gift card to a nail salon or Target, earrings, GS cookies.  One year I collected money from families and placed the large sum on a VISA gift card.  The teacher really appreciated that.

Gift cards. Oyr distruct has limits on how much a teacher can accept so class moms just ask for $$ from parents and a gift card is purchased and then the kids usually design something and its made into a small token like a trivet or plaque.

I usually do gift cards, but I'm really struggling this year because my 2nd grader has loved his teacher (plus I've actually been able to get into the classroom to help out on a regular basis) and my youngest is finishing up his 2nd year of preschool with the same teachers my oldest also had for 2 years.  I want to do something more (especially for the preschool teachers) but I don't know yet...and really don't want to wait until the night before the last day...like I've done the last several years!!!

I've given coffee, tea, or gift cards before.

Gift cards really are the way to go. Especially for places where they can be spent on supplies for the classroom.
