Is it wrong to pop a 6 year old in the face for back talking?

What should I tell my friend to do instead of this?

I use Sassy Sauce which can be vinegar or hot sauce. I dip a toothpick in it and wipe the toothpick off so there's barely anything on it and then touch it on my son's tongue. I've done it only once or twice and now all I have to do is mention the Sassy Sauce and he straightens right up.

Yeah, that's not ok in my house...

And I can't give her advice because I don't think "back talk" is always something that should be punished.

Back talk in my house is punished by being sent to your bed to lay down. My kids are still kinda young though so back talk usually only happens when they are tired.

The mom could make the girl correct her tone and choice of words right then and there, so the girl learns on the spot what and how she said it were wrong, and say sorry, if course.

I pop my kids on the mouth when they talk back! It shocks them more then hurts them. I see nothing wrong with it. There is a difference between slapping a child across the face hard enough to leave a mark and Popping on the lips. But that my opinion

I don't and have never hit my kids. I charge my kids a nickel a comment, more for my teens. It actually stops the backtalk for a while.

I have an ice cream fund with the money. In the 8 years we've been doing it, I still don't have enough for an ice cream cone at my favorite shop.
