My daughter will be starting kindergarten and she is very girly. She wants to wear a fancy "special occasion" dress on her first day. I think it would be adorable for her to be all dressed up for all the pictures I'll take for her first day. Do kids dress up for the first day of school?

Yes for kindergarten we saw a few girls in fairy wings and sparkly shoes.  DD is going into 2nd grade so we will pick out a few new outfits since she is in a growth spurt right now.

Whatever my girls decide from their new clothes they will get at the end of Aug. They start school in September.

They usually both wear some kind of dress or skirt, with a tank top and shrug or something. And then running shoes. lol They hate girly shoes. Mine or going into grade 6 and sk.

Usually  new outfit, but nothing dressy. They end up on the playground at some point.

I know my 13 yr old came home day 1 with grass stains on his knees the first day of 1st grade.

My kids normally wear shorts and a t-shirt since it is still pretty warm here when school starts and there is no air conditioning in the school.

It's a special day but they wear clothes that are comfortable and special to them, which are usually clothes they have enjoyed wearing in the past.

My boys wear uniforms to school. So nothing special for them to wear....

We have a tradition. They either get a new outfit or wear something they've never worn to school. It's a nice outfit but not overly dressy. They always wear the exact same outfit on the last day of school so we can really see how much they've changed over the year

I don't know for dd, yet. They do have a pretty strict dress code though. Ds will probably wear shorts and a shirt.
