My daughter will be 7 in three weeks and my husband and I are at a loss as to what to get her. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. She loves monster high dolls, but she doesn't play with them once she gets them. She loves to read and she loves arts and crafts. She also loves science and building stuff.

Have you asked her what she might like?

I would ask her and go from there.   Maybe even an ant farm would be fun for her.

If she loves the dolls, have her collect them. Don't open the boxes and keep them on a shelf. My mom did this with my Barbies once I lost interest in playing with them but still liked them.  She'll appreciate that when she's older.

Other ideas would be craft kits. They have several different kinds from sand art, scrapbooking, bracelet making, etc.

Leggos (they have Lego Friends for girls, my girls are getting the huge dolphin boat for Christmas)

MP3 player or a tablet (my girls are getting their own kindle's for their birthday from grandma)

Nintendo DS with games and accesory kit

Like the first poster suggested, the Rainbow Loom is popular these days.

Something science related...microscope, telescope? Science kit?

A boxed set of a book series she likes?

Take her to Build a Bear?

1 mom liked this
We got ours a swing set, jumping.castle, and 2 magnifying glasses for bug exploration. She uses the magnifying glass more than all those things. Her bday was last week.

I don't buy a lot of toys for birthdays.  Instead I pick an outing like a big game or with my daughter a theater/musical production and get tickets.
