My son been going to Lakewood Elementary school for almost 5 years now. He was doing good but in 1 St grade he started having problems reading writing and staying on task everyday. In 2 ND grade he started not focusing in class and filling apart in school. So he fail and had to repeats the 2 ND grade cause he can't read or write but now he still not focusing img class now. About 2010 I put him on ADHD meds cause every other day he would hit students, teachers and through things and put up sharp objects in the class room. He always get get written up every time he come to school but now I change his med about 5 times now cause he would still get in trouble again and get written up again, again. But now the school can't control him cause he has anger problem and failing all his school work. He is not doing good now cause every time I have a meeting with all his teacher, the specialist, school board, behavior teacher, I told them since he started having trouble in this school PLEASE send him to NINA HARRIS so the teachers can deal with him and control his behavior, everything but they will not do it cause of the money and the rest that they are not doing at all. So I give up on everyday cause my son was born with this and he stated when went to day care and now Elementary school. It's been a struggle all the time. IM so stress out and heart broken. I don't know what to do anymore. I just need some advice on what to do now and how to handle this problem. Thank you

He needs to be seeing a therapist, and that is your responsibility.

Did you change his diet with the meds?

What does your pediatrician recommend?

Are you getting him a tutor to help with being behind?

Does he act this way at home?

Sounds like you need to try something in addition to the medication. Throwing drugs at him isn't working, so look around and see if you can find any therapists in your area that specialize in alternative therapies for children with ADHD. You might also consider a dietary change and asking the school to test and/or set up and iep if he qualifies. You might even consider a private tutor or a private school with a smaller class size so that he can have more one on one instruction with his teacher.

 All of this.

Have you tried asking him why he is behaving this way?

Is he an only child?

Has anything changed in his homelife that could be causing him to act out?  Do you have a new boyfriend/husband?  Are you getting a divorced or in a bad breakup?  Has he recently lost a pet?  etc.

I think it's time for a re evaluation. Did you know that ADHD meds can make bipolar disorder worse? I'm not saying that's what he has but something to look into. I would start by calling the doctors, and then work on diet...pull out all red dyes, dial back on dairy( we switched to almond milk)..It makes a HUGE difference. It is YOUR job to get informed and get him help

Have you thought about homeschooling? There are great online public schools, like K12.com, most of the time it is free through your school district.
