Small children at R rated movies

Posted by   + Show Post

I will admit I judged some parents harshly today. My husband and I went to see "Bad Grandpa".  There were four different families that brought children 4/5 years of age. I'm no prude, believe you me, but I could not believe they subjected their kids to that content. The movie was hilarious, but not appropriate for young kids at all.

Thoughts?

ETA: I don't think all R- rated movies are wholly inappropriate, but there is no question that "Bad Grandpa" is. It was created by the same people who made "Jackass" for goodness sakes. I haven't laughed that hard in a while, BUT it was NO place for a child.

I'll never forget the big family that brought all the kids, including toddlers, to see Jurassic Park.  OMG, the  nightmares those poor babies must have had.

First of all, you don't know me, I don't lie. You are a real piece of work. Laughable actually. I don't have a big problem with Disney. I said it teaches things just like other stuff. Clearly, things need to be written literally and not with any room for misinterpretation for you to process them. There is a lesson to everything in life. The majority of stuff my children encounter is met with discussion. This isnt amateur hour sweetie, I'm active in their lives. R rated doesn't mean just horror films either. My daughter always wears her headphones and she never cries at movies because she's sleeping. You may hear other children but you would never hear mine. If I am at a children's movie and my daughter acts up I take her out. People pay to watch movies, its disrespectful.
My first reply was a quick answer to a post. Didn't think it required a novel. Sadly, you feel otherwise. You are so filled with disdain for something you know nothing about regarding a person you also know nothing about. When I go to the movies, which is rare, I do take my kids. I plan it around her sleep time if its not suitable for her. Don't, for a moment pretend to know what I do and then call me a liar. Your reaction to something so benign is an indication of your need to feel superior and unfortunately you choose to do so with malice. Maybe work on yourself before you police the world one, non-novel writing, mom at a time. Get off your high horse and worry about your own kids.

Quoting MomtasticX2:

First of all, you said you "ALWAYS DO" which means you always take your children to R rated movies which are made for ADULTS! Second, I don't believe your B.S. for one minute that she always goes with headsets! I have seen young children crying in R rated movies almost every time I go! Not to mention other posters have on here too! So if you are this amazing exception to this rule and you never let your 4yr old actually WATCH horror and gore, then you'd SAY SO IN THE FIRST PLACE! SO Quit LYING

Quoting Dolcepsle:

Thank God for saints like you to point out how awful some mothers can be. Oh wait, I meant judgemental jackasses like you. Without you I'd be lost in this world! I have a very smart, well rounded, super respectful and grateful 16 year old that slept through movies too. Did I say I go constantly? Did you ask how I take her? No, you jumped to your own conclusion because you are blinded by your need to be the superior mom. FYI, not that I owe you anything, my daughter wears her headphones with music. Oh shit, are Elton John and Cat Stevens evil??? Help, I need YOUR guidance on that too. Wait, let me guess, her headset is damaging to her ears.....nope they are specifically for children and have a max setting. Slap on a cd and teach yourself how to be less high and mighty. In my opinion Disney movies are worse for teaching kids stuff. They tell girls they can't live without a mans validation and that women are evil, jealous, hateful, bitches once they age. Do I get on things and tell moms to boycott Disney or they are sucky moms? Nope, because parents have the final say....not Internet strangers, Ms Momtastic!

Quoting MomtasticX2:

Get a freaking babysitter or wait until it comes out to video! That is just selfish! Ever hear of subconscious? People actually buy CDs to listen to as they sleep to help them quit bad habits, gain self esteem, etc. Yet you are having your child learn adult content! The brain does not turn off just because you're sleeping and you assimilate what you hear while you sleep!!!! I am blown away by you people!!

Quoting Dolcepsle:

I ALWAYS do. She sleeps right through them (4yrs old) and never watches so at least I get to go on occasion.

So you think a judgmental woman telling another woman that she's selfish and essentially a bad mother isn't bitchy? Maybe your comprehension level lacks as much as that other woman's. Have a good day!

Quoting 4girlsmum:

Yes, and i am not surprised by your bitchiness, maybe you watch to much trash.....

Quoting Dolcepsle:

Was that directed at me?

Quoting 4girlsmum:

Somebody had her bitchflakes today didnt she?

I was as appalled as she was at your irresponsible parenting. I dont think its wrong to judge bad behavior.

Just like her, you failed to find out the situation. You jump to conclusions based on your need to be the better parent. My daughter sleeps with her headset on. Doesn't watch and doesn't listen. You two should form a club and lynch moms you clearly out parent. If you missed that, it's called SARCASM. I don't need your validation. What I do with my kids is more than appropriate. It's evident in their behavior. Just because people don't parent exactly like you, it doesn't mean they are wrong. Get a hobby other than mom bashing on CM. Improve on yourself and eventually your need to be #1 will fade away and you'll be so happy with what you have that you won't feel the need to put others down in an attempt to boost your self esteem.

i see that a lot at the dollar theater. I guess they just don't have anyone to watch the kids.. i go to the dollar theater for that reason myself.. i won't take the kids to a rated R movie though.. pg13 is as far as I'll go. don't see it as much at a full price place though..

Depending on the movie I suppose. Bad Grandpa is not an appropriate movie for young children. I don't let my 5 year old watch things like that. He's sensitive when it comes to movies & plus, he isn't interested in anything but Disney Jr or Nick Jr. He watches cartoons before school then for a few minutes before bed. He would much rather read his books or play

Excuse me? You called ME a "jackass" so I don't know why suddenly I am the "one with malice" lol!! Do you always delfect? Anyways, if you are going to post something PUBLICLY then yes, you should ELABORATE if what you meant by you "ALWAYS" take your children to R-rated movies meant "rarely" and when you say your child sleeps through it, you mean she listens to a CD with a headset! Those are completely different answers so ONE OF THEM IS A LIE! Sorry, obviously you don't like being called out but don't call someone you don't know a jackass! And I can be judgemental if someome is admitting to taking children to watch adult content movies! R-rated movies have sex, nudity, violence, blood shed, foul language, and often are quite scary! So no, I don't believe a responsible parent would admit to having their young children "ALWAYS" exposed to such content. However your back-tracking doesn't make it OK either. Unless your child is narcoleptic, then they are still exposed to the content even WITH headphones since I'm sure they dont fall asleep during the opening credits just to wake up at ending credits. You left yourself open to judgement and I would also judge of someone said they allowed their child to watch pornography or if they locked them in the basement for misbehaving! I have a right to my opinion, especially when the movie rating system is in place to help keep children OUT OF R-RATED MOVIES! That is the whole reason for it.
