taking forever to do anything! visual processing
Sadly everything has always been that way. Eating, brushing his teeth, picking up dirty clothes, cleaning his room, bathing, getting in and out of the car, you name it. Everything is a battle.
And now with homeschooling there's no exception. He gets frequent breaks, he gets time outside, he doesn't have too much work and a lot of it is interactive/hands on. But still it takes him forever! I'm talking 4 hours to do 10 math problems he knows how to do. It's not too easy or too hard. I help him when he needs it. I hate it! When he has a good day he can be done with all of his work in 3 hours. We do something special and then he has a bunch of free play time. We end the day with a movie and an extra book.
And yes, I've tried timers, racing, sticker charts, rewards, consequences, etc. He gets so focused on his reward he just can't focus on his work. And if I tell him something like "hey let's do your work and go to the park!" He completely shuts down.
Anyways, his mentor at his charter school last year mentioned she thought he had a tracking problem with his eyes. Took him to a developmental eye doctor who confirmed it and prescribed glasses. He went back for a checkup last week and his eye doctor says he has visual processing problems. He told me that he is slow to do things and has a hard time learning visually. That's exactly what I see in him and no, I didn't tell the eye doctor that.
Anyways now we need to do further testing then therapy. My question is has anyone ever felt with this? Did therapy help?
