Our oldest who is 9 got suspended yesterday from school. He took one of my hubbys knifes to school and had it in his desk.

We have tried everything from grounding to take stuff away. Nothing works. Any ideas???

I'd want to find out why he took the knife to school - is he being bullied, is he being the bully etc?  Nothing excuses taking knives (or other weapons) to school, but I do think knowing why is important.

What else has he been doing?

Not knowing what else is going on, it does still sound like its time for therapy.  Perhaps even a check up with his pedi, depending on what's going on.

Do you know why he took it to school?

I'd talk w/ him about why he took the knife to school and why it was wrong.

Then, since you say you've been having trouble w/ him before now, I'd get him into counseling.

This. I agree that therapy might be a good idea

what about electronics?? Can you take that away? That's what I do.

I hate to ask, but did you ask him why he did it?  aww age 9.  When they don't care.  I have that with my 10 year old.  No special treats.  Homework and off to bed.  no social time.  what about a different approach.  Voluntary work??
