Ron has 6 blocks, he has 1 more than Margo. How many do they have in all? Now I know more than means + but don't you have to figure out how many Margo has first?

Unless I'm missing something I believe the total is 11. Margo has 1 less than 6 totaling 5. 6+5=11.

She has 5 blocks because he has one more. They have 11 in all.

Maybe because English is not my first language so I'm translating it in my head and I'm not understanding but I got a different answer than the teacher.

Margo has 5, and they have 11 together.

The answer is 11 blocks in all.  Ron has 6 which is 1 more than Margot's 5 blocks, so together they have 11 blocks.  Easy peasy!

That's exactly what I got, but the teacher said 6+7= 13.

What answer did the teacher get and what answer did you get?

I was in class thinking "am I missing something" I didn't correct her because I thought I missed something in the problem. I feel so much better lol

Ron has 1 more than Margo, which means Margo has 5, while Ron has 6...add them together and you get 11.

That's definitely part of the issue.

Comparison words work differently in different languages.

Ron has one more than Margo so she has five.

They have 11 in all.
