I agree to an extent. I don't see how it can't be both ways. My mom was my friend growing up but I knew not to mess with her either. DD is my little buddy and I hope that never changes but I'm the stricter one between DH and me.
I think there is a happy medium that is more ideal then the two extremes.

I agree. Too many parents these days don't parent their kids. They let the kids make the decisions that kids shouldn't be making. And instead of holding the child responsible, they defend the child's poor behavior choices or make excuses why it is someone else's fault that their child did what they did to get in trouble. Too much helicopter parenting stems from parents trying to live vicariously through their kids' lives.

Kids have plenty of friends. They NEED parents!
