I am so glad that Obama said he is going to pass no children may quit High School. I have an issue with parents letting kids quit school. You can't even get a good job with a High School diploma let alone with out it. Both my ex husband and my BF"S parents let them quit school. I tell them all the time. No way would I ever of let you quit school. I said your parents were so wrong to ever let you quit school. I said I will drag Dylan by the hair and drag him to every class if I have to. Just like my mom told me. Sure I hated High school. But no way would my mom ever of let me quit. She was a high school drop out and no way was she going to let my brother and me quit. Boy. I am so glad she did not let me quit. My BF and his ex wife let both their daughters quit. They even allowed their 16 year old daughter at the time go out of state to get married. I said to my BF. You and your ex are so different then me. I said no way would I ever allow Dylan to go get married at 16. When I watched Obama's speech and he said no kid will be able to quit High School. I thought why didn't any other president do this. So what is your view on this? I want the best for my son. And that is not letting him quit.
I think it really depends on the circumstances. I personally would not let my child quit. If she wanted to quit I would tell her that she had to get a job first and pay me rent or move out. I am saying this because my daughter is smart and should go to college. Furthermore, I would not give her a dime and she would lose the privelage of using my car. So, I would think that would make her think twice and go back to school. I do know a person who was very smart with ADHD and dropped out of school. They had a goal. They got a GED went to hair and makeup school and is a very successful makeup artist in NY City. High School is not for everyone....especially and all academic high school. It is very hard to find a vocational high school. I am all for keeping kids in high school and making them stay, but you have to offer an alternative to college prep. Not all kids are college pre material so more schools have to be built that offer trades. I don't know of any vocational high schools in my area. I am from NJ and there a vocational high school that you could go to and when you graduated you were a certified cosmotologist, electricain, draftsman etc. The school is still there probably because NJ spends more on education than any other state and has the lowest high school drop out rate. I don't know of one vocational high school around me in CA and California spends the least amout per child on education. I think it is wrong to tell kids that they have to stay in school if they don't offer to teach them skill they could use to get a job. If my daughter's passion was lets say....fashion design and she was focused on a goal I would let her drop out and get a GED only if she was old enough to enroll in a community college or school for fashion design. Honestly, hard work and perserverance will get people farther in life then a high school diploma. So Obamas make kids stay in school but you better come up with the money for vocational high schools equipted with the latest technology so kids can learn a trade for free!!!!! Some kids finish high school and cannot afford a trade school afterwards! If the US is in a recession where is the money going to come from. This topic is just to get people to stop focusing on the real problems. Making kids stay in school is not going to create jobs and keep manufacturers and large businesses in the US and help the economy. OK, so I will stop now..lol..
