How much do you pay for lunch at school?

How much do you pay for your school's lunches? Also, can the kids buy snacks as well? How much do they run? Our lunches are 2.25 this year! To me, that is high. The snacks are from .25 to .75 each, for things like fruit roll-ups, etc. If the kids buy a second piece of pizza on pizza day, that is an extra 1.50 on top of the 2.25!!

We pay $2.50 this year. Last year they were $2.00. I think the .50 increase was a big jump, now considering we pay $25 for 2 weeks worth of lunches!

It depends on what they choose, I found out my 10 year old was just getting 2 corn dogs and a bottle of water everyday.  That was $3.55, we rarely do school lunches any more though because it was just too hard for my kids to choose healthy stuff over pizza slices and corn dogs.

We pay $2.10 a day (x2 kids) elementary. This includes their milk and they can buy Ice Cream on Fridays only. In Middle & High School they can choose lunch a la carte and pay per item or they can buy the straight out lunch and pay $2.75 per meal.

Your districts lunch price is decided by how many kids in your district receive free or reduced lunches. So if you have a high population of kids on free/reduced lunches, then your lunch price is cheaper for those that are paying full price. If you live in a wealthy district where few children get free/reduced lunches than your lunch prices are higher. Unless your kids go to private school and the private school is not offering free/reduced lunches. At least they say that's how it works here in PA.    Our closest URBAN school district (about 4 miles from me) has about 85% free/reduced lunch rate, the kids paying full price for lunch only pay about $1.25 per meal, elementary.

Honestly, My daughter would not eat school lunches if they paid us. The food in the Chicago Public schools is awful: overloaded with sodium, saturated fats, etc. The salads are primerily brown iceberg, if they exist at all.

I have a huge list of bagged lunch ideas that I have collected over the years; please send me a message offlist if you would like a copy.
