My daughter's neutropenia is caused by the chemo and it comes and goes in cycles. It's not necessarily a sign of cancer, but it's not normal to walk around neutropenic either. I hope your munchkin is okay! *hugs*

Some early signs of leukemia are:

  • lethargy, weakness, paleness, dizziness
  • back, leg, and joint pain, headache, trouble standing or walking
  • easy bruising, unusual bleeding, frequent nose bleeds, bleeding gums, petechiae (red pinpoints on the skin)
  • repeated, frequent infections
  • fever that lasts for several days
  • loss of appetite, weight loss
  • swollen lymph nodes, bloated or tender stomach, swollen liver or spleen
  • night sweats
  • irritability

i just dont know what can be causing her neutrophils to be so low :[

im really worried.

does your child have leukemia?

how were they diagnosed?

She does have leukemia, ALL. She was acting very sluggish, just so very tired that I took her to the pediatrician to see what the matter was. The rest is history. She got blood test run at the ER and they suspected right away that it might be leukemia. The next morning she had a bone marrow test and it was confirmed. We waited almost no time for the diagnosis.

When are your little one's tests going to be done? Does she have bruises or marks? How did you find out about the low neutrophils?

i mean she gets bruises from being a little monkey lol

but nothing that seems out of the normal.

1 time she had a fever with no other symtoms so they check it and seen that number was low and checked it again a month later to see if it went back to  normal and it didnt...my daughter ir rarely ever sick....they havent said anything about doing a bone marrow test...im just so worried :[

how is your daughter doing now??

Neutropenia is a side effect from chemo treatment for Leukemia.   It is not a sign FOR Leukemia that I know of.

I have heard of kids who do not produce neutrophils but I do not know enough about that.  There are a lot of different types of white blood cells too.   Be patients--the body does some very strange things and most of the time it fixes itself.  Wait for the test~

My daughter is in remission so far, thank you for asking. She's in kindergarten and doing all the things a normal little girl does :)

When are your daughter's tests? Will you keep us posted?

Sweetheart, we all handle it in our own way. IF that is a diagnosis for your daughter, then you will find the strength because you HAVE TO. We will be here to help, whenever you need us. But you are stronger than you know.

Yep, pretty much what she said. We all only cope because we have to, not necessarily because we're strong. If you find out bad news, we'll be here for you when you need us! xoxoxo
