Random winner to be announced next week.  Winner will receive an Herb Value Pack (organic) with basil, cilantro, parsley, oregano, and dill.

"You don't have to go to the grocery market and pay inflated prices for herbs to flavor your foods. You can grow them right at home. Let's see how much you already know about them. "

1. I used to live in the northeastern United States. This plant grew freely there with little care. It smells like onions and is used in salads, soups or maybe with sour cream on baked potatoes. What is its name?
     chervil
     mint
     chives
     chamomile

2. Here's an herb that is often used in Italian cooking. It adds a distinct flavor to tomato sauces and pizza. You'll find it in Southeast Asian cuisine too. What name would you give it?
     cilantro
     sage
     chervil
     basil

3. Here's a versatile herb: it can be used to flavor meats, salads and tomatoes and its fresh leaves can be used to polish furniture! What is this herb that sounds a bit like a female name?
     cilantro
     caraway
     marjoram
     shallot

4. Ancient Egyptians used this herb for embalming but you'll probably be content just to use it in casseroles, stews and soups and with eggs, potatoes, fish and green vegetables. Would you consider it quizzical if I asked you which moderately pungent herb is in this picture?
     chamomile
     arugula
     lemon verbena
     thyme

5. This herb is often called coriander when referring to its seeds but has a different name (at least in North America) for its tangy leaves. It is used for Mexican recipes and in Asia may be known as Chinese parsley. What is its name?
     cilantro
     bee balm
     lemon balm
     lavender

6. This herb seems to adapt to being grown anywhere. It can be used to accent the taste of food or drinks, including a drink that is a symbol of a famous American horse race. Which herb is it?
     lavender
     mint
     rosemary
     savory

7. This gray-green plant doesn't get showy until its purple flowers blossom. It's used as poultry stuffing, a meat rub and added to egg and cheese dishes. Which herb is this?
     parsley
     dill
     garlic
     sage

8. Besides being used as a pizza topping, this herb is used extensively in salads; in fact, one of its nicknames is salad rocket. What would a salad chef ask for when ordering it?
     rosemary
     arugula
     tarragon
     fennel

9. If you come to my house for pizza you'll see a generous amount of this herb added to the sauce. It's a member of the mint family but its aroma is more like sage. Tell me paisan, which of these choices is it?
     oregano
     ginger
     motherwort
     turmeric

10. What do we have here? Are these daisies or coneflowers? This one is from the same family but its claim to fame is a calming tea made from its flower heads. Which herb is it?
     shallots
     chamomile
     fennel
     stevia
