Okay, I don't intend for this post to be some kind of big debate.  I simply want to ask a question and see if anyone can shed some light on this for me.  This is NOT a debate about the candidates at all.

Okay, in presidential elections, the public has the right to vote, I know that.  My question is, why?  Why does the public vote when their votes don't even elect the president?  The electoral college votes are really the only ones that count when electing a president and vice president.  Now, I know the majority of the time, the electoral college sticks with the majority popular vote from the public, but they don't have to.  The electoral college can vote in whoever they want, they don't have to go with public opinion.  So, why is the public allowed to vote anyway?

Don't get me wrong, I vote, and I have ever since I was old enough to vote.  This is just something that I've been wondering.

Here is a site that explains the electoral college  http://www.archives.gov/federal-register/electoral-college/faq.html

My viewpoint is that the electoral college system needs changed; however until and unless it is, how else are we to let others know what we want unless we vote? If the popular vote and the electoral college vote are not the same, then there is a problem....but it can happen. But I feel if we don't cast our ballots, as is our right and duty to, then we have lost any voice in letting those in charge know how we feel. And I am so glad you vote!!!!! I don't understand the system greatly, but I do know that it is what gives us our voice. We can yell and rant, but until we put hand to touch-screen, or whatever the system is where you are, no one has to even pretend to listen to us......

This is very true.  I do vote, so that I can have an opinion and a voice.

Do you vote in non-presidential elections?  These are NOT bound by the electoral college votes and your representatives in Congress have a good deal of power as well, as does your local government.

Peace,

Kat
