Dh and I have had this on-going battle about step-d's tv in her room. She just turned 10 and she would spend most of the day in her room watching tv/playing video games. She would never go to bed on time and would never turn the tv off at 9pm like she was supposed to. I got fed up and made dh take the tv out. Now she interacts with the family more, etc. But dh says we're just punishing her because she has excellent grades. I told him that she could be watching god knows what at all hours of the night because once he goes to bed, she turned the tv back on. And now he tells me that I'm being over-protective. I wouldn't mind a tv without cable access with a dvd player, but if the tv goes back in so does the cable and video games. Does your child have a tv in their room? And how do you manage it?

My DD is only 2, so no. I do not plan on allowing a TV in her room until she is a teenager.

No way, but mine are 5, 5, and 2months. The 5 year olds would not have a tv in their room unless we got one that only played dvd's, but even then I think they would just fight over it and spend too much time in the bedroom, so I wouldn't do that.

Go ahead and bash me but this worked for us! We were having a hard time getting our son to sleep in his own bed in his own room, he likes tv and loves elmo and has one elmo movie he loves. So at bedtime after bath and book i turn it on and hes straight in his bed and stays there all night. If this is what we had to do then we did it, WE had tried everything there was but now ill say lets go night night and he asks for elmo then he goes in bed and we dont see him till morning.

I said other because Yes 2 of my kids have a TV with cable and a DVD player but nothing else. No games in there. Even though it is in there room I still have control over what they watch and how much because we can unplug and we have all the channels blocked except the cartoon ones.

No, im sure they would LOVE to have one in there but I dont think kids should have tv's in there room. If mine had one in there room they would be up all night watching tv and nothing would get done.
