The CafeMom Newcomers Club
This is the reason DH is sleeping on the couch tonight, lol. Here's the scoop. I have a step-daughter who is 10. She comes every other week to stay with us. The moment she comes till the day she leaves, she'll make it to bed at 9pm, maybe once or twice at the most. This is because dh won't enforce it. I get tired of being the "wicked" step mom when I have to go and "remind" them (dh and dsd) that it's time to unwind and get ready for bed at 8:30. Even if she starts getting ready at 8:30, which never happens. She'll want dessert, or she'll want a bubble bath. Then she has to lay out her clothes, get water, etc, etc. So she manages to stall until about 9:30. And it was much, much worse when she had a tv in her room. I made dh take it out (see other post). Now my MIL is coming to stay with us for a week and that means bedtime is totally out the window. So now we're feuding over it. Dh says I'm overreacting and that bedtime isn't really a big deal because she gets straight A's in school. Any advice?

by KairisMama on Oct. 11, 2008 at 1:38 AMI am strict Sunday through Thursday. My DD will go to bed at 8:00, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. On the weekend, I'll let her stay up until 9:00, 10:00 at the LATEST. I do MAKE her go to bed. Mom and dad like their free time at night too. :) :) :)

by llmom1921 on Oct. 11, 2008 at 1:39 AMHere.... Bedtime on school days are strictly enforced...... (If my kids don't get enough sleep, they get really cranky)... On the weekend I am a litt more lenient, and let them stay up a little later... (in hopes that they sleep in a little later, ) And even if they get up early, and get cranky, there is always time for a nap on the weekend......... |

by mandy716 on Oct. 11, 2008 at 1:41 AMWe have a fairly stric bedtime through the week, but on the weekends our schedules change and therefore hers changes as well. Sometimes we will be at a friends house until 11 or so and she will not fall asleep until we are in the car on the way home.

by Susanjdv861 on Oct. 11, 2008 at 1:42 AMmy son is only 5 but he actually really good about putting himself to bed by 9 or so everynite. he has always been a really good sleeper. and i never have to fight him about going to bed. he decides when he goes to bed. but if he not asleep by 10 then i just put him in bed and shut off the lites and he goes rite to sleep. i am pretty flexible about it. as long as he getting enuf sleep everynite i don't see a problem with it. |

by ElijahsMommy58 on Oct. 11, 2008 at 1:45 AMElijah has to be in bed before 8 or he is SUPER grouchy! Sometimes he'll stay up a little later. Like this weekend my parents will be up here in Tacoma visiting from Oklahoma so I'm sure he'll stay up later. But if there is not a special occasion, its 8 o'clock!
