question for moms of teens

I think as long as she's a responsible, respectful girl, you should let her listen to whatever she chooses. I love the song you're referring to, even though it's probably got a horrible meaning. The tune is VERY catchy!!

Yea I think you are. As long as she is a good kid and doesn't listen to a ton of horrible music I don't see what's wrong with her liking one or two songs that are "bad". Hell I listen to a lot of music that made my parents cringe.

I hate that song!!!! I think its so dumb.I dont kow why its so popular.Her voice is annoying & cant even understand her voice!

Honestly, I agree you're over reacting. She's a good kid and it's only 1 song then why make a big deal out of it? We all listened to music that made our parents toes curl when we were teens. (granted some of the gangsta music is explicit)...But really if she's a good kid like you say then I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't know if your over-reacting, but I have a 16 year old son, and he likes the same song.  I don't tell him that he can't listen to it, because at 16, or even 15, you have to pick your battles.  Listening to a song is not that big of a deal.  I remember when I was a teen, I would listen to "2Live Crew"  which is extremly sexually explicit.  But really, I never paid attention to the words.  I mean, I knew the words, but to me, as a teen, they were just words.  They didn't make me want to go out and have sex.  I was a virgin until I got married.  I didn't really cuss as a teen, and I don't cuss now.  I think that she's just listening to it, because that's the "in" song right now.  The bigger you make it, the worse it will be.  Kids start to really rebell at that age.  Like I said, you really need to pick your battles.

I remember when I was about 15 or 16......  (And, I was the best kid ever!! No partying, no boyfriends, no drugs, honor roll...  maybe some what of a "dork" ).........  But there was this rap song everyone listened to.....  (It was VERY sexually explicit!!!) I can't remeber the name....  But "everyone" was listening to it...  so I did too.....  (It didn't mean I was sexually active....  It didn't mean I agreed with the song)...  But it was cool at the time,  you know???

Just keep an eye on her....
