The CafeMom Newcomers Club
Is anyone else stressed because they have company coming for Thanksgiving and they still have a ton of cleaning and shopping to do?

by happymom612 on Nov. 23, 2008 at 7:54 AMAlthough I am not hosting the dinner, I am stressed about this year's get together. My brother and his wife are not getting along, and they teeter on divorce daily. My parents are stressed out b/c of the situation, and my husband's parents aren't overly thrilled about having a family get together. Still, I wear a smile for my son and my parents. Life is not always a Norman Rockwell painting and I am okay with that. I feel like dinner will end up looking like National Lampoon's Christmas vacation:) If you can't smile, you won't survive:) |

by worktodo on Nov. 23, 2008 at 7:57 AMNope, my husband is away and I have an invite to a friend's house. Let her clean, lol. Just kidding, I really don't care if her house is clean as long as the food and company are good. And I'm taking some of the dinner, so she won't have as much to do (tell your guests the same). I'm the same about wanting my house to be clean for guests, but really, think about when you go to people's houses, do you really ever care or notice if they're house isn't immaculate? Probably not. So they won't notice either. Just clean the bathroom they'll use and a quck dust and vacuum for the rooms they'll be in, otherwise, close the doors. :-) |

by CubanJelly on Nov. 23, 2008 at 8:46 AMI did, once. I cleaned like a mad woman and cooked for 2 days, so excited to host my first Thanksgiving! I phoned my MIL at 8pm the night before to find out what time everyone (MIL, FIL, 2 BIL & wives) would be arriving. They'd decided not to come. We have our own Thanksgiving now and I don't clean until afterwards! The best Thanksgiving was when I wasn't going to cook, we were going to eat at a restaurant and in the middle of the night my parents showed up knocking on our bedroom window - they live in Mexico. My mom, dad and DH cooked all day and it was awesome! Also, no cleaning! LOL |
