by petersgal on Dec. 2, 2008 at 4:22 PMI saw one on HGTV... dunno if its too much for your DD, but they went through this guys junk and found some old lamp bases and an old globe, cut the globe in half and mounted it as the lamp shade.. it looked AWESOME! Also, when I was SUPER poor in college we made collage end tables. We took a couple of boxes, collected a ton of old newspapers from people and put them inside to make the boxes heavy and sturdy... taped the whole thing shut, then pasted photos of ourselves and places we had been all over the boxes. Covered the whole thing with lamination... it held up pretty well for the 2 years we used em! |

by michelle6_10 on Dec. 2, 2008 at 4:27 PMVinyl records make cool bowls and lamps. If you melt the record over a glass bowl in the oven just til it's pliable then smash it down into the bowl then paint it if you'd like. For a lamp base you could get a cheap old clarinet or something and use the record as the shade. |

by reluctantdragon on Dec. 2, 2008 at 4:43 PMHomemade Citrus Household Cleaner Fill a large, wide mouth jar with citrus peels (such as lemons, oranges, limes, grapefruits). Cover the peels with white household vinegar. Let brew for four weeks, shaking the jar occasionally (just to mix it up a bit). Strain (I did this twice). Use as a laundry booster (I just tossed it in with the whites), window cleaner, floor cleaner, counter tops, appliances (Dilute in water-1/2 cup per gallon of water works well). For a stovetop grease buster I just sprayed it on undiluted. Test surfaces first before using. Tips: Before filling the jar, I made sure the citrus peels were scrubbed well in baking soda and water to remove any chemicals or pesticides. It's a lot easier if you do this before peeling the fruit! To collect the peels, throughout the week store all the citrus peels in a baggy or airtight container and refrigerate. If your household doesn't go through a lot of citrus fruit in a week, just chop up what peels you have and fill a small glass jar (or even spray bottle) with peels and cover with vinegar. To make a big jar like above, you need a lot of peels. You could try freezing the peels and then thawing the bunch when you have enough, I haven't tested that though. Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Kwanzaa!!!

by o0gone0o on Dec. 2, 2008 at 4:53 PMMy SO's cousin does some pretty awesome things from trash. She melted a bunch of those blue bags w/ the smilies on it from Walmart and made a freakin blue shirt w/ a smilie, she made a large purse out of reciepts, and a large ball in chain made out of junk food wrappers. But i have to say that bow idea is pretty neat can use magazines or wrapping paper since it is that time of yr and all. Could find a way to use the rings that hold a 6pack together and create a photoframe out of those glitter glue cardboard and heck could even use magazines or wrapping paper to give it some color. |
