The CafeMom Newcomers Club
So my husband and I and our 2 small children just recently started lease a new condo (about 6 weeks ago). Although, it seems that since we've moved in we've all been sick and just can't get rid of it. Coughing, sneezing, watery and itchy eyes and HORRIBLE headaches. Well we started searching the house to see if it was something in here making us sick and my DH came across, what looks to be, some kind of mold in our bathroom skylight.
We cut out some pieces and took some pics of the infected area! What the hell is this?

This is the skylight we cut out of!

And this is a couple small pieces that we cut out of the wall.
When my DH was cutting out some of the drywall with the (what appears to be) mold on it, we noticed some flies that came down and out from where the skylight it. Do flies hang around places with mold? Or are we just crazy?

by The_Misses on Dec. 4, 2008 at 1:25 AMThat was our first thought. But we've never seen it before so we were unsure. I have got to get our DD to the doctor tomorrow, if he's not available then I'll be taking her to the ER and I'm taking this stuff with me. She's done nothing but get sicker by the day since we've been here. She's starting to show a lot of asthma like symptoms as well.. Quoting Briggs_mommy: |

by piratemommy_08 on Dec. 4, 2008 at 1:25 AMYeah, it sounds like mold. They have mold testing kids at Home Depot and at Lowe's. You should for sure get it checked though, mold can cause all of those symptoms. It happened to my husband when we were living in our last apartment...he was sick all the time (not normal for him) so we decided to get a kit and we discovered mold. No good. Good luck, hopefully you get the situation worked out. Oh yeah, did you buy the condo, or are you renting? |

by The_Misses on Dec. 4, 2008 at 1:26 AMWe would, if it weren't actually completely through the drywall. My husband cut out all the way through the drywall and you can see black fuzzies throughout it all. Quoting Audreys_Mommmy: |

by HotMommaMurphy on Dec. 4, 2008 at 1:28 AMI would be cautious of putting anything on it especially bleach. Bleach mixed with certain types of molds will release, extremely harmful chemicals that can result in esophagus burns, lung burns, all of the sinuses can be affect... It happened just this year to someone I know so I WOULD NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!! Call someone... professional, I have no idea who to call about mold, but in general it can cause all your symptoms and can be very dangerous! |
