need advice on changing babys formula

My son is 2 weeks old and hes not handling his formula very well. Its making him very gassy, constipated and throwing up formula on occassion and he just cries constantly. I talked to his pediatrican about this and he told me to just keep using it till next month and if hes still having trouble he will change it.  But i cant stand seeing my little boy in such discomfort. My DD at his age had the same problem and was put on similac alimentum and it worked wonders for her.  I want to start him on it even though dr said to wait.  should i listen to the dr or should i go off my instinct and experiance. Its so unfair for him to be in such discomfort all day.

go with your instinct and experience.  If you had the same problem with your dd then why not?  Do you have the same pedi for both of them b/c I don't understand why he would tell you wait when he switched it for you with ur dd.  hhmmmm... I would just switch it.  We must have had our son on 4 different formulas before he started being less gassy, constipated and colicy... and in the end we ended up with the first formula and he just grew out of it.  GL mama!  Hope your little boy feels better.  Poor guy...

I would say do the similac alimentum.  My son is on that too and it is AMAZING!!  Sooooo expensive though!

You can go ahead and change it, but just remember that you should keep him on whatever formula you switch to for 2 weeks to give it time to work. That is what my pedi tells us. That if you change formula don't change more often than a 2 week period.

Personally, I would call the doctor back and tell them that my child is in pain and if he isn't willing to advice me on how to help him then I will find a new ped.
My son was vomiting after every single feeding and he was put on Nutramigen.  We still had to put him on medication for reflux, but the combination of that, the hypo-allergenic formula and Thick it to thicken every bottle so it stayed down better worked pretty well for him.

Switch him over immediately!! The sooner you switch over, the less pain your son is in. Instinct ALWAYS overrides opinions.

Go with your instinct, a mother's instinct when it comes to their children is never wrong.  I would say change it.  He might have a milk protein issue.  My little girl did, and we had her on the alimentum for  until she was 1.  Good luck momma!
