I would like to know of any educational videos that teach alphabet and counting. my ds is 19months and he LOVES cartoons, but the cartoons on TV don't really teach anything.

NO I do not depend on TV to teach my son, but he does watch tv during the day when I am doing laundry or in the kitchen etc. I would like to get a cartoon that could be educational.

I know about the Your Baby Can Read videos but those are kinda expensive. A set is $200 and that will have to wait till christmas. (plus they dont teach counting)

  • I bought some of those for my son and he won't even watch them. I can't say I blame him either. They are the most boring dvd's I have ever seen!!

My son loves sesame street, sid the science kid, and super why.

    Baby Einstiein DVDS.

a set of them cost 50.00, i believe and a single DVD is 15.00

they're VERY educational, and they go depending on age, so however your child is developing at the time; it focuses on that.

  • I decided to go with the Your Baby Can Read. My son has watched the video once pretty much every day and we do the flash cards when I, or my mother can. My son Loves the videos! No they don't do numbers but they are great anyways. He is 11 months old and is responding to the words on the screen now so I would have to stand by those.                         toddler boy

Um, Sesame Street....  The classic that has been helping kids learn letters and counting for 40 years!  And its actually kind of fun to watch as a parent, because they have great guest stars!  You can buy DVDs, watch episodes on demand, watch videos and play games on sesamestreet.org.  I love it.

My kids loved the Sesame videos...

There are a lot of choices.  My favorite for the alphabet was Big Bird's 'Do the Alphabet' and my favorite for counting was Ernie's '1-2-3 Count with Me.'  They have a lot of other really good ones, too!

You may be able to find them at the library so you can check them out before buying them.

    Hope that helps!!

I found this one, it has numbers in it... I'm sure you could buy the numbers alone w/o the set though... My daughter loves these dvds, and even if it's $15, it's better than junk cartoons on tv where they're not learning anything right?

Yes myd aughter watches some tv, not very often and she doesn't have the attention span to sit there! She loves these dvds though. We have wordsworth, my first signs, and something else... but 2 of them we got free...

  • Doras Puppy Power does counting up to 20 i think.  Each task involves a certain number of things she has to get or find.  If your local library has dvds or videos they may be your best resource.   Children this age learn best by play and fun, not necessarily the sit down and look at these numbers. You can also talk about letters when you are walkign around with him doing errands, point out letters on a sign, labels etc.

  • Comcast has a Baby Boost section in their On Demand/Kids section and it teaches EVERYTHING!  Also, the Your baby Can read program does work, at least for my daughter it does!  Mickey's Playhouse teaches everything too and Sesame Street is Classic too!
