Worried. What do you think?

no bashing please. My son came home from school yesterday with a cough, he was chilling and when I took his temp it was 100.3. A few hours later it was 103, with a cough and a bad headache. He woke this morning and he has a slight headache, cough, and 104 temp. He's 9. Should I bug his Dr. ? He was around his cousins and they had the same thing and their parents let it run it's coarse. What do you think I should do? I'm just worried about all the stuff going around and h1n1. I have a 1year old and a 3 year old also that I would hate to get this. Any opinions?

are you giving him anything to break the fever?  You have to break that fever that is way to high.  If you cant get the fever to break definitly call your doctor

Call the Dr...no sense taking any chances when it comes to the flu, keep the little ones away from him.  Hope he feels better soon.

right now...if it were me.......I'd take him to the dr.  I have a 9 year old as well but he also has an underlying condition of athma.  For us fever would warrant immediate trip to the dr.  My 3 year old had fever a couple of weeks ago of 103......I took her in....it was viral but at least I knew...kwim.  It lessened the worry and the dr said they'd rather see them and it just be viral than not see them and it be H1N1 which can be helped with tamiflu.....

eta:  I agree that is a high fever. hugs and prayers....keep us posted

If it was my kid I wouldn't.

I would alternate Tylenol and Motrin.

Push his fluid intake and encourage him to rest.

I would only call the doc if I couldn't get the fever down with the Tylenol and Motrin or if he was having wheezing or difficulty breathing.

But that's just me.

I'd take him to the doctor. The worst they will say is that it's the flu and send you home. It's better to know then to risk the health of all your children.

Why don't you just call and describe what's going on and see what they say. Usually the docs have certain criteria for a sick visit--not that you HAVE to meet it if you really want him seen, but THEY may recommend it for certain circumstances.

I always hate taking sick kids out because it's more miserable for them to ride in the car, drag themselves in, etc, often just to hear the doctor say, "This is just a virus. Call me if X, Y, or Z happens."

So, that's my long answer. :) My short answer is give them a ring and describe his symptoms and ASK what to do. Then make a comfortable, pillowy place for him, get some cool drinks like OJ and love him ....

Oh, and NEVER worry about *bugging* a doctor for a sick child. That's their chosen profession. That's what they are there for-real and legitimate concerns.

Hope your son feels better soon!

For his age, a 104 temp is not dangerous unless Tylenol/Motrin doesn't reduce it.  It's not uncommon to spike a fever that high in a simple virus.  That said, use your insticts here.  If your gut says it's more than just a cold, take him in.  You know your child best, so you can spot an unusually wet cough, lethargy, changes in behaviour, etc. that let you know things are "just not right".  Hope he feels better!!

Dr. Phil said that the secret to inner peace was to finish everything you started.  So I looked around the house, finished the book I wanted to read, my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheesecake, and a bottle of Jack Daniels.  You wouldn't believe how calm I am now.
