I found out some information about circumcision the other day from my sister in law who worked in the hospital that I will deliver our baby. Im not sure what we are having yet, but I do have a 4 year old that was circumcized there. Anyway, I thought id share what I didnt know but I know now and I will be doing things alot differently this time. I didnt know that they have a cream they can put on the penis to numb the pain and that its just topical and very easy to do. I also didnt know that they strap the baby down for the procedure and that a parent could possibly be present if they wished. I dont know about everyone else but I never want any of my children strapped down without me or my husband in the room at least holding their hand and if I knew that there was any way my little boy could have gone through the circumcision pain free I would have pushed for it. My sister in law said that the ones who got the topical numbing cream didnt even cry. By the way, she was the nurse who had to help the doctor with the procedure. Hopefully this is helpful to some. I personally feel bad that I didnt have this info before my son had his done.
My in laws were right in the room when there son was circumcised. They said he cried for about 10 seconds, and all was fine. If this one is a boy we're going to have him circ'd. I'll want to be in the room as well.
Kairi is 3!
I did a lot of research when I found out I was having a boy, and in the end we chose to leave him intact.
Were going to get this one circumsized, but thatnks for the info, i will make sure DH is in the room with DS when he gets it done and i will ask for the numbing cream!!
I was in the room when they circ'd my son. They didn't "strap him down" they just had a nurse keeping him occupied so he didn't move. He didn't cry at all because he had the numbing cream and the nurse gave him stuff to eat. He didn't cry afterwards either. It only took a couple minutes and the doctors talked me through everything they were doing.

Thats awesome, I hope to get to do the same thing.
I heard they sometimes can't use the emla cream because it damages the foreskin that is donated for skin graphs.
i just had my son two weeks ago on october 22nd... my df went with our son to get circ'ed and he said they gave him a shot in his area to numb him and they gave him something sweet to suck on.. and that the machine did the work for the doc... he said our son cried for the shot to numb him but he didnt cry at all when he actually was being circ'ed... good luck with everything when you find out...

Hmm...maybe so, id be one pissed off mama if it wasnt my choice to donate anything from my son. And its a very small piece of skin, I didnt know they did that. Seems like you should have to sign a consent form.
Same for me.
