My dad, who does not believe in God, always says, "Where in the bible does it say that it is the true word of God." Since my dad raised me, I do not know much about religion. Obviously a lot of you know waaaaay more about this than me. Does it say that in there anywhere?
Well, I do not believe it says that in those exact words but if you have a red letter version bible all the verses written in red are from God. All the other stuff you know is from God because the author says stuff like God told me or God showed me. I guess it all breaks down to if you believe or not.

In a red letter text, the red writing is only in the New Testament and it is used when Jesus speaks, which is the word of God. I don't think it uses the exact phrase, "The true word of God," that's where faith comes in. If someone doesn't want to believe the word of God, they aren't going to, sadly.

Then Now

2 Timothy 3:15-17 (Amplified Bible)
15And how from your childhood you have had a knowledge of and been acquainted with the sacred Writings, which are able to instruct you and give you the understanding for salvation which comes through faith in Christ Jesus [through the [a]leaning of the entire human personality on God in Christ Jesus in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness].
16Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God's will in thought, purpose, and action),
17So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Honestly, when people ask me (or i see questions about) the bible or God, I advise them to read it for themselves. Don't take anyone else's word for it. I believe the bible means something different to each and every person that reads it. That's the best thing about it. Even if you don't believe in it, well, hey, it's still a good read. lol
verse 16 was what I was thinking

that's my answer too. And if you want to learn about Catholicism, don't read some Jack Chick tract - read the actual catechism. If you want to learn about Judaism, read the Torah. If you want to learn about Islam, read the Koran. Go to the source! :)
