As some of you know I home school. Well my kids have been a bit lazy about getting stuff done. So today I said what doesn't get done today you will do weekend schooling. I was talking to my bio mom and she said that it was cruel and that I should just pick up where we left off on Monday. We are about 6 weeks behind sense we started home schooling middle of October. An I really don't want to do schooling durning the summer sense we will be moving. Am I being cruel? They already do a music and art leeson on Sunday.

I don't think it's cruel! They slacked off, now they have to pay! It probably won't happen again!

As a homeschool mom I would say no it is not cruel.  I make my kids do it.

i don't think it is cruel at all.  if they are being lazy, they need to make it up.   I am really not trying to be mean, but you aren't teaching them spelling, are you?

It sounds similar to when public schools send extra homework with a child that they didnt complete at school on friday.  Please dont forget it is "since" not "sense" as you are the teacher i am guessing.  Some schools i have heard do a weekend detention as well for students who misbehave or do not complete their school work.  Need to have some firm rules and consequences in place so that homeschooling works and the children dont lag behind their peers.

lol I don't think it is cruel. I went to catholic school and my religion teacher had me go to school on a saturday for being lazy. It is not like you are making them do this every weekend (I hope). Every action has a consiquence and this is theres. Besides in actual schools if they fall behind from snow days and stuff they have to go on saturday.

Not at all. They should do their work when they are supposed to and if not...then it has to be done on the weekends. When I was in school growing up teachers would assign stuff on Friday or whatever and tell us if we didn't finish in class it was weekend homework. Same concept right? Maybe next time they'll do their work when they are told.

Most weeks we go all seven days, some weeks only 1 or 2 days.  It's not cruel.  If you feel they need to catch up, go for it!

We're doing math, almost exclusively, this month.  This kind of flexibility is one of the best things about homeschooling!

The only appropriate attitude for man to have about the big questions, is not the arrogant certitude that is the hallmark of religion, but doubt. Doubt is humble and that is what man needs to be, considering that human history is just a litany of getting shit dead wrong. - Bill Maher
