My sister is navy, when she was in boot camp back in july she got very sick. She now has a bill for over a thousand dollars! She said the the military said she has to pay it, this don;t seem right to me?! She was in boot camp, in the service? shouldnt they cover the bill? who should she talk to about this?

She is no longer at great lakes, but that is where she was, and she did see a DR on base

That is very strange. Did she not go to a doctor on base?

if she has military insurance (which i think all military has) then they should cover it.... however, insurance could have covered a portion and the $1000 could be the leftover bill

no, AD (active duty) members are fully covered and so are family members (unless the family members are on prime i think)....she needs to talk to TRICARE.

I would think it would be covered by tricare.  But I'm not Navy so I don't know who she should talk to.  I just work at RTC in Great Lakes.  Is your sister still up here?

Active duty members are fully covered medically for everything.

it is probably a mistake. She'll need to call and talk to tricare.

If she received treatment at a medical facility, she shouldn't be responsible.  There should be no bill.  If it was a civilian facility, that's something else entirely.  I'm not sure who she should talk to, maybe start with going to the admin building.

If she went to a doctor on post, all bills should be covered regardless of prime or standard.

If she went to a doctor off post, who was NOT her PCM.....there might be associated fees. But still...I would imagine being in bootcamp....she would have gone to an on post doctor. Which is why I can't really see her having to pay anything.

Maybe I am mistaken, but this is the way I understand it.

I have TriCare Prime. My hubby is AD Army. Well I was transported by ambulance a while back and I received the bill. I sent it to TriCare and they paid it. I'm assuming it would be the same in her case.
