Sore throat, earache and headache...(UPDATE 2)

My son is 28 months old.  He's not been himself for 4 days.  Yesterday he was complaining of a headache (not entirely uncommon for him) and started complaining of a sore throat, which has continued today.  He had a 99.6 fever today as well.  I gave him tylenol earlier but he was still comlaining of a sore throat, so I went to the drugstore and talked to the pharmacist.  We got Chloraseptic thin strips (the 2mg benzocaine ones) for him and gave him that.  It worked well for his throat, but now his ear is hurting.  I hope he's not getting sick but boy it sure looks like he is.  :(
Of course, its Friday, so its going to be awhile until his doctor is back in.  I don't think its bad enough to warrant an after hours call right now, but I won't hesitate if he keeps getting worse.  :(

Update:  He's been miserable and in trouble all day.  He still has a fever around 100 and his throat is red.  I couldn't tell for sure, b/c I only got a 1/2 second glimpse, but it looked like there was a white spot or two as well.  Crap!  I think there's a trip to his ped in our future.  :(

Update:  I got a good glimpse at his throat this morning, with help from my mom.  Its not even red and definitely no white spots!  I'm thrilled.  He doesn't have a fever and seems to be feeling a lot better.  I'm so happy.  It looks like we'll be avoiding the ped after all.  We still can't go to church today, because he had a fever yesterday (boooo) but at least he's feeling better.  :)

Sounds like to might be in for a long weekend. Just have motrin, and tylenol to go back and forth with as you well know earaches can spike high fevers, naturally in the afternoon, and at night. Good luck mom, been there done this. Hope he feels better soon.

We have a little bit of motrin and plenty of tylenol.  He's never had a high fever (of course, now that I say that, he'll probably spike one) and I am NOT well versed with ear aches at all.  He's only ever had 2 ear infections and they were VERY minor when they were caught.  I just hope he's feeling better tomorrow.

what about tea with honey and lemon for sore throat...... the fever is not that high just keep him hydrated and rested. Do you have a local health food store nearby-get him on probiotics 3 times a day and vitamin D3 and vitamin C.

He takes Animal Parade Kids Immune Booster which contains Vit D, Probiotics and some other stuff.  He's been on it since July and this is the first illness more than a 1 day sniffly nose since we started it.

I had to go the the doc with those symptoms today and I tested positive for strep throat. Take him to the doc till he gets in but unless he starts running a high fever just try to keep him comfy and hope it's allergies. :) I hope he gets to feeling better.

Oh gosh I sure hope that's not it, but its what I've been worried about.  :(  If he's still sick Tuesday we'll call and go in.  I am really hoping he'll be better by then.

I had the same thing! They never told me what it was but they thought it could be strep, then mono, then diptheria (crazy lady dr from russia) but it sealed up my airway so I could bearly breathe because I thought it was not a big deal. Take him into the dr asap!!!!! Im an adult and took myself to the ER.

The whitespots on the nasal cavity where it meets the throat (between the tonsle) inflames the throat and makes it close up. My sinus was killing me (ears, nose, throat area were all pressurey) and I had a constant migraine). They gave me an injectable antibiotic and a pill antibiotic. It felt like the flu but I flashed a light in my throat and saw the white stuff grow like cauliflower.

ITS ER SERIOUS!!!! TAKE HIM IN!!!!

I promise, it isn't ER serious.  His ped will be in Monday so we'll go then.  He's having absolutely NO issues breathing, not congested at all, etc.  Its probably strep, especially since his ears are hurting.  I'm sorry you went through all that, that's crazy.  I'll keep a close eye on him, as always, and get an appt Monday.
