When did you or when do you plan to allow sleep overs?  I have a 7yo DD and a 9yo DS who really haven't had friends sleep over before or never really spent the night off. I asked them if kids in their classed were having sleep overs already and they told me yes.  I don't know how I feel about the whole sleep over thing. When is an appropriate age to start letting this kinda thing happen?

            What are you thankful for?

  • I was ten when my mother let me.

I'd say that is about the right age, 10-11.. the first year of middle school, when kids start getting into that sort of preteen girly things.

  • Well I would think you shouldn't do it until you are comfortable with it. But we are having a sleep over tomorrow at my best friends house. Her kids b-day party is tomorrow and we are sleeping over. Then some other kids will be staying as well. So it will be me, df, and bestie with like 10 kids between 3 and 10. Besties youngest is 3 and df's oldest is 10 that's why the age is so broad. But the pasty itself if for a 4y/o. We had one on Halloween and it was a blast for everyone.

  • My parents didn't really allow sleep overs (yeah, I know, I was a deprived child...Lol) but I'd spend the night at a friends' house or have 1 (and only 1) friend spend the night around age 7-ish. Usually it would be with my bff on Saturday night and meet my parents (or hers) at church Sunday morning. Or for my birthday. Slumber parties (3 or more girls) didn't happen until 6th/7th grade and I think the last one was around the 9th grade mark.

  • It also really depends on when the kids are ready. Of my 2 oldest, my ds was more of a homebody, his first sleep over was in the 4th grade, with GOOD family friends. My dd on the other hand started having sleepovers in 2nd grade here and at my best friends house, whose dd is alos my dd's bestie. Last summer there were 3 girls going into middle school and they alternated sleeping at each others houses at least once a week. I would only do it if you know the family really well, it's a GREAT and fun experience!
