Quick question for cooking mommas

OK i promised dh chili tonight. But i have no tomato sauce...

i've got spaghetti sauce though, and ketchup! Can i use either one in replacement?!?!

DH has the car, and i am using the crockpot so i cant wait lol

  • lol, I wouldnt spaghetti sauce and chili are 2 totally different flavors IMO.

  • Do you have tomato juice or V8 juice?  What about tomatoes are you using canned or fresh.  If you are using canned there will be some juice in them.

  • I would not use either of those.  They would put a total different taste to the chili. 

    What kind of spaghetti sauce do you have?  Maybe you could spice it up a bit!  Do you have chili powder, cumin, cayenne?

  • i have traditional spaghetti sauce, and i THOUGHT i had cayenne pepper but according to dh, he took it to work! all i have now is the chili packet and some super hot sauce

  • NO NO NO lol I made that mistake once thinking, "well its tomatoe right" WRONG it was the nastiest thing i had ever put in my mouth!!!! I beg of you dont do it lol You can use like ranch style beans then just flavor your water accordingly ive done that b4 and it didnt turn out so bad, but that means your gonna have beans in your chili and im not much of a beany chili person lol but you can just pick around them lol

  • I wouldn't. I would just have him pick some tomato sauce up on his way home and then cook it on the stove. Does not take long that way.

  • You could use those instead of it being "chunky" use the tomatoes you have and put em in the blender or food processer, just switch the recipe a bit??
