Question: How many of you have a career that you went to college for?
Total Votes: 51
I usually don't get many answers to this... but does anyone know of a good career (a real one) that I can do from home or part time without having to put my child in daycare? I am considering medical transcription, or becoming a midwife and just doing it part time. My husband works a rotating shift so he's home a lot of the time during the week. We need more money and I feel like I need something to do with my time. Anyone have any suggestions or have these jobs?

I am actually only 2 or 3 classes away from being certified as a medical coder, BUT, from my understanding you have to have office experience before anyone will hire you to work from home. Is that true? I started the classes before I got pregnant.

medical coding? all the coders at my job work from home
I went to school for respiratory therapy. I work part-time, in a hospital....5 days every 2 weeks. We do 12 hr shifts here, 6p-6a (I'm at work right now). The pay varies....they pay well here, b/c it's in a big city...I know people that work out in the boonies, that make $10/hr less.
No, a transcriptionist just transcribes a doctor's recorded notes to paper. It's not the best job, but it's something to do from home that earns OK money. I could do coding too, but from what I understand you have to have 1-2 years office experience before you can work at home.

Is medical transcript the same as medical coding?
How long did that take you?
