Ok, so I have an abcessed tooth that started bothering me yesterday and I was trying to wait it out until Monday, but it got to the point where I can't open my mouth besides to scream, so yea, off to the urgent care center I went. He prescribed me some amoxicillin and naprosyn, after we had a little debate on whether or not hydrocodone or darvocets were safe during pregnancy. He was going to Rx me vicoden, but I made him go double check to make sure they were safe, same with the darvocets. He came back and told me that he could prescribe me Naprosyn and that it was a catagory B during pregnancy. I thought that was GREAT! I wanted an anti-inflammitory anyways. I'm not a fan nof taking narcotics, pregnant or not. So, I get my meds from the pharmacy, come home, take the antibiotics and one pain reliever, then about an hour later get bored and decided to look it up online. He forgot to mention that it can cause birth defects if taken in the last trimester!! I'm 33 weeks pregnant and scared SHITLESS. I made such an effort to find painkillers that were SAFE for me and my baby and he picks the one that can HARM my child and cause birth defects!

What can I do? I called the nurse line at the hospital. They told me the antibiotics were safe, but to definately get a hold of the doctor, which I did immediately. I'm waiting for her to call me back, but I'm really worried. I don't know what to do! It's too late for me to puke it back up and I'm terrified of the damage I may have just caused my baby! I feel like the biggest piece of **** right now. Why did I trust that doctor before looking it up my damn self?!

Calm down, Mama.  I know it's scary....but you've only taken 1?  Chances are VERY VERY good that nothing will come of it.  Next time, double check the meds 3 times before taking one.  Check with the dr, again with the pharmacist, and then look it up yourself.  But relax, I'm sure everything is fine.

if you only took one i wouldnt worry to much. not the same as pills but when i was about 4 or 5 weeks pregnant and didnt know it i went in the hot tub because we were staying at a hotel and we were in it for a while and went in it a couple of different time and also got an infection and took meds to not knowing i was pregnant well when i realized i was pregnant i was really worried i hurt my baby but he is completely fine and had nothing wrong so if you only took 1 pills try not to worry to much until you talk to the doctor good luck hope everything is ok

I really would try to calm down.  Taking one pill is unlikely to cause any harm to your baby.  You are right, the doctor screwed up.  Naproxen is only a category B drug in the first and second trimesters.  It's a category D drug in the third.   I'm sure everything will be just fine.

Thanks. I'm just happy I caught it, but at the same time, it kills me to know that the meds that are going through my body RIGHT NOW could hurt my baby and it's my own fault. I feel so guilty!

My doc never called back, so I'm just going to call again in the morning. Hopefully sleep will come fast.

I was given the wrong Rx for bladder infection meds while breastfeeding. The doctor at the ER wrote it after me telling him i breastfed. I found out it was the wrong meds prescribed because I saw on the the bottle it said not good to take while breastfeeding.  I then called Walgreen's and talked to a pharmacist and she said that it's wasn't safe during breastfeeding.  She told me to call the doctor and get a different Rx (she gave me 2 different  names of meds that was safe to take while breastfeeding).  I told my doctor and it was changed to one of them.  Try calling your pharmacy and ask them.  If there closed you can call Walgreen's it's 24hours and ask a pharmacist.
