Should I get my DS a doll?

Today I took DS to the library, and in the play area, there was a lifesize toddler doll that I showed him. He immediately started ''talking'' to it and even gave it hugs and laid his little head on her lap. Made my heart swell up with how affectionate he is! He is an only child and doesn't get a whole lot of opportunities to play with kids his age. We lavish him with attention at all hours of the day, but I don't think its the same, because we're grown ups. Should we consider getting him a doll like that one, as a 'friend'? Or is that creepy? He's almost 14 months old now.

  • I would say no under the circumstance posed.  I'd try to get him involved with other kids, not an inanimate object.

  • I think lifesize toddler dolls are creepy (like Kid Sister and My Buddy from back in the day!).  My son is 21 months old and he has lots of stuffed animals and even a doll that was mine what I was a kid.  He drags them around and talks to them and hugs them every once and awhile.  There's nothing wrong with a boy having a doll.

But, if he needs companionship, look into local playgroups or something of that nature.

  • Thank you so much for the suggestion! I googled 'chesapeake local playgroups' and I found a whole list! I always just assumed I'd have to have friends with kids, or would have to pay for the Little Gym or something. I'm looking into some of the groups tonight!

  • If you live in Chesapeake, there are plenty of playgrounds and areas down there that have child settings. (Sorry, I grew up right across the VA/NC border) Doesn't Greenbrier Mall have a play area in it? I don't remember. It's been about 3 or 4 yrs since I've been down there. Or even taking him to Chuck E. Cheese right there by the mall. Or if you are up for the drive, Mt. Trashmore. You can still get a doll like that as "someone" to play with, but I figured having someone who knew a little bit of the area would help.

Brittany. I'm 19. Alexis is my first baby and is the light of my life. I don't believe in getting married b/c of a child and while we are happy together, my boyfriend and I do not plan on getting married.
