So, my 9 year old is up.......  crying that her knees hurt.

I remember that age........ and I remember my knees  killing me.

When I complained to my parents, they just shrugged and said..."Oh, it's growing pains........  it's normal!!" I hated that......   I know what it feels like!!

I gave her some motrin, and a warm bath..........

Anyone else have any handy tricks to ease the pain???

I could use some advice!!

  • I used to get them nightly, I STILL get them.

Have her eat something that's high in potassium. I can usually tell when i get them because my legs will get stiff-ish, so i eat a banana or a potato and I'm good.

  • I remember getting them bad as a kid too. And my oldest son (8 years old) has been getting them for a couple years. He gets them really bad too...I hate it because I know it really hurts. I don't have a ton of advice, but I've used Tylenol or Motrin and also heating pads.

  • Yes! I had them when I was a kid. They were aweful! I used Bengay/ Icy-Hot in addition to a warm bath. Sometimes a warm bath was the only thing that helped.

About a month ago I had horrible leg pains after working out and they were the worst pains I ever had. I used bengay and a bath, but what really helped was...I fell asleep on the couch with our laptop on my thighs. The heat from the laptop was really nice.

I also used therma care pads when I was a kid. They are next to the icy-hot in the store and they are kind of like a heating pad. I think anything with heat is likely helpful Ohh and potassium! Have her eat bananas!

Good luck! I hope your daughter's growing pains subside soon!
