we are poor dirt poor out of the 3 adults in our home only one has found a job. My cousin and I are still on the hunt.
Our health insurance charges $100 for an ER visit that we don't have in our bank account and can't really ever afford to pay.
We don't have a vehicle, so a $10 cab ride or a several hundred dollar ambulance ride that is not covered by our insurance.
My baby has what looks like staph infection and it showed up very quickly and we are stuck at home with him on a Sunday.
I want to call the hospital tomorrow, but if they do say to bring him in to the ER we can't because we just can't afford it there is no money in the bank and still bills to be paid.
The frustration just goes on, and our government is twiddling their thumbs when it comes to solving this problem that many have.
ok I am done venting I just thought about that while I sit awake worrying about my baby.
I can understand your being frustrated but if I thought my child had a staph infection we'd be at the ER right now and I'd figure out how to pay for it later. My children's health is the most important thing to me and I will not compromise it. Don't ERs do like payment plans or something?
I have to say being only 21 with no family around and a young dh as well I don't know what ERs do just what our HC company says our co-pay is and my dh just told me he had a meeting at work last week our co-pay is now $150.
I also don't know what staph infection really is as far as it looks right now is a really bad blister. I am not finding much concrete info on the net about it.

Just go to the ER tell them up front that you can't pay today. I have never heard of an ER turning away someone. As far as finding concrete info online, well I just wouldn't trust it.

That's what I thought. Every ER I've ever been in had a sign saying that no one can be turned away because they can't pay up front for services. If there was even a remote chance my kid could have staph I'd be at the hospital getting him checked. I've known a couple of people who had it and it wasn't pleasant at all.

You need to take your child to the hospital regardless of the cost. They will set up a payment plan with you.... and they may even be able to let you talk to a social worker who can set you up with a discounted rate. I would never let money, or the lack of, stop me from getting the proper treatment for my child. Maybe it seems harsh, but I took these possibilities into account BEFORE I had children.
I am a Private School sending, Vaccinating, Non spanking, Nightmare Cuddling, Dessert Giving, Homework Helping, Bedtime Kissing, Book Reading, Academic pushing Mum. I believe in the benefit of organized after school activities. I believe in spoiling my children. I believe that I have seen the village and I do not want it raising my child - I will do that, Thank You. I believe that a woman's place is in the home taking care of her house, children and husband. I am submissive and proud, my husband is head of my home. I am a proud, traditional Roman Catholic, as is my husband... Yes we are teaching our daughter that The Church is the only Church. Aimee
The only reason that I can think a hospital could turn them away is if it is a private hospital. Only immediately life threatening emergencies will be treated for everyone at a private... so the OP needs to make sure that the hospital is a public hospital.

What state do you live in? I would think he could qualify (the baby/child) for state insurance that covers most visits to ER. Regardless if you think it is staph get him to ER immediately, everyone i have known who got it waited to long and then needed surgery to correct it. I cant imagine how it would feel to a child. Has he seemed to be in any pain?
Good point, I didn't even think about that. I've always had insurance so I never gave too much thought to it. I just remember seeing signs about not turning people away. I read the other post and he most definitely needs to be checked out regardless of money. This is your child and staph spreads quickly.

Yes... I have always been the same. I gave birth at a private hospital and I remember asking the nurse why the ER always seemed so slow, lol.
