When did your little ones say their first word?

My son is eight months old and hasnt said anything. His hearing was normal at birth, he reacts to his name and when I talk to him. But he barely even babbles, he makes noise but its screechy noises and vowel sounds (aaaaahs and ooooohs) He's starting to do a "ba" noise every once and a while but its few and far between.

What did you do with your kids to get them to talk.... I read to him and talk to him but is there anything else? If he doesnt say anything by his wellchild visit in December Im going to mention it to his Dr.

All of my friends kids (same age and younger) are all talking. One of the boys who is two months older than him knows 5 words already!

Well on the bright side he has great motor skills...

  • My son is 7 months and the only real word he says is "dada". Other then that he also makes screechy  and vowel noises like your son.

  • Don't worry about it, Mama. If his motor skills are awesome like you said, then his learning abilities are all just focusing on that aspect of his growth right now. His talking will catch up in time. If he's not saying 5-7 words by 18 months THEN start worrying. Until then, you've got tons of time! He'll get there when he's good and ready.

  • My son was not a big talker until he was about a year old.  It was like within a month he had like 9-10 words and then he just kept building from there.  My DD on the other hand is a huge talker she is 16 months and already has a ton of words (too many to count off hand) and she is even putting two words together!  All kids are different.  DS was walking at 10 months and DD has just now started walking and still prefers to crawl.  They are going to go at their own pace, if your doc is OK with it then don't worry!
