Harness to booster question

My son is 4 and weighs about 37 pounds. He is in a 5 point harness, but the straps don't fit around him any more. I can use it as a high back booster if I take the straps out, but there is no latch system in my car. How would I secure the high back booster to the seat? Would I just use the seatbelt to hold both him and the booster in the car? I may just switch to a regular booster. It says it's OK to use with a 4 year old.

I didn't have this problem when my older child transitioned. The laws were different.

Thanks, ladies. :)

Honestly Id keep him harnessed longer. My personal minimum for boostering is 6. He's a small 4 year old and has an increased chance of submarining in a booster seat. There are so many options out there that will harness to 65lbs or longer. You probably have one of the 3-1 seats and those typically make horrible boosters.  A graco Nautius would be great seat for you. It harnesses to 65lbs, then turns into a booster.

But yes, you would just use the seatbelt with the booster part of the seats. Few boosters are allowed to be LATCHed

what type of seat do you have?

really you don't want to place a child in a booster seat until they are at least 40lbs.  there are lots of seats available that can keep him safe and harnessed for longer.

My 4 year old is 43 lbs and is 45 inches tall and he's in a booster. He does just fine.

Well latch doesn't hold a booster in most times, its just the seatbelt holding both the child and the seat in the car.  The seat is more of a belt positioner at booster point.

I don't think very many 4 year olds are ready to be boostered emotionally.  They usually will not stay correctly seated 100% of the time.

Instead of spending the money for a booster think about buying a seat that will harness longer.  The evenflo generations 65 at babiesrus is only $99, the APex 65 is $85 at Big LOts stores, and $89 at albeebaby.com

Theres also the graco Nautilus thats $144 online and it can harness til 65lbs then booster til 100lbs..so worth the money.

Your child will be much safer harnessed longer.
