since were all talking about xmas... and gifts... and money... and budgets, lol...
i wanted to ask you all a question... so, i noticed one gal said that kids dont need more then a few(a few to me is 3-5) gifts under the tree... and it got me thinking....
if you do think that way, tha tkids only need 3-5 gifts each, is that gifts from YOU? or do you include gifts from extended family in that?
the reason i ask this, is cause i guess some would say we spoil our boys as xmas and birthdays.... you see, very rarly do they get gifts from extended family..... (i wont go into the whys, ut some are money, but some are also just cause, well.... they dont tend to think of my kids) so, anywhos.... we used to think.. 3 gifts each, then a big one to shar..... but then... well.... thats all they got... was the gifts from us... soemtimes my mil, if she could make it... so we started getting thing threwout the year, and so far, my oldest is up to 7, and i am hoping to get two more.... my youngest im going shopping for this weekend, cause of his age and such, hes a bit harder, lol... but so far 3, but im planning on a few more....
anywhos......
not really asking a question, but i guess i am.....
do you think its wrong that we do this for our kids?

I only have one child and will prolly never have another so he gets SPOILED!! He is my MIL and FIL only grandchild so yeah-----I don't care a bit!! My child My choice! LOL!!
I grew up DIRT poor so what I have I will give to my child AND teach him to be responsible for it.
No, their your kids, do whatever you feel is right. I grew up & this is what we've done with our kids~ getting 1 'big" present (not in size but price) then some smaller presents. How big the 'big" present depends on financial situation. The stocking (my facorite part) jewlrey, giftcards, candy, small toys, ect.

I'm a holiday/birthday person. I do the holidays BIG. Not just with gifts, but with love, family, food, trees, vacationing...all of it. It's the one time of year that's all about FAMILY and being together. Of course kids love gifts and I dnt have a set amount of gifts that I buy my children or my nephews and nieces. I just shop, I stop when I feel like it. I usually get up super early the day after Thanksgiving and do majority of my shopping (i always save a bundle of money by doing this) then after that I just pick up little things here and there. I'm super stoked for the Holiday season!!!

No, I don't think it's wrong to do that. That's what I am doing this year, too! My children will both be getting 3 gift a piece from us and maybe something from their grandparents (but I'm not really counting on it). I let my children pick out a gift for the Toys for Tots program or for someone that I know who will not be getting anything for Christmas (usually for that I will try and get at least 2 or sometimes 3 gifts).
I guess it depends on what works best for Your family. I personally choose to do it this way because I would rather my children not get EVERY little thing they want and get to help another child have a nice Christmas. Now that my children are getting a little older they really seem to enjoy picking out the gifts for the other children. :0)

Why does it matter what you do for your kids? I mean they are YOUR kids, and it is YOUR money being spent on them, so who cares.

my children usually get between 80 and 100 a piece spent on them for christmas. And I can make it pretty even number of present wise. This year it will probably be less. I buy my kids lots of random stuff though like coloring books, crayons, big packs of playdoh.... those things they get to split. My children ended up with 10 presents a piece last year and 3 to share. We don't have a lot of money. We are by far at the lower end of middle class, but i push my bills back to make my kids christmas happy. they don't really get toys besides birthdays and christmas. Sometimes easter. So I dont see the big deal. As long as YOU are happy and YOUR KIDS are happy, thats all that matters. :)
