I have heard it in every debate about Islam. When people compare extremists to "regular" Muslims. "If Islam is so peaceful, why don't Muslims stand up and speak against it?"
We do, all the time. We try to educate Non Muslims as well as the extremists.
But we are drowned out. Good news and happy stories don't get viewers. More people are going to tune in to watch the extremists that protest in NYC than the Imam speaking against them.
So, all we can do is talk to people on a face to face (or computer to computer) basis. To be examples with how we live our lives.
So if you are one who thinks that, well here is a Muslim woman, and man because DH feels the same, saying these people are wrong, they are people who pick and choose from the Holy Quran and twist it into something to fit their own sick thoughts.
They recruit and prey on mentally ill and un educated people.
This was just something I needed to say after visiting the answers section. Decided to post it here because the Anonymous cowards frustrate me!!! Lol.

  • Thank you :)

I believe the same can be said about every religion to some extent, but I think its worse with Islam because its in the headlines so much with all of the things going on in our world today. It stinks.

  • that girl from answers was a bitch. never in my life have i met a muslim person that was angry at all. in fact, they're always calmer and happier than me. a few people ruined it for everyone.

  • I don't know why I keep going back there! Lol. Debating with real women who stand behind their words, even if I don't agree, is much better! I can't stand cowards, lol.

  • I think the same could be said for (some) other religions too.  I don't know much about the Quran (sp??) or Mohammed (sorry, I have no idea how to spell. lol) other than the bits and pieces told to me by other people.  I have heard a lot of people say that in the beginning of his teaching, he speaks of acceptance of other religions but toward the end, he was much more violent and wanted to convert or kill the people???

  • I had a conversation with a close friend who came home from Wal-mart upset because there was a cashier with a head wrap on. I was asked how I could stand it especially with DH being to Iraq and losing my cousin's husband over there. I simply stated it's not her fault. She had nothing to do with any of what's going on. We have family friends who are middle eastern but they're from Isreal and are Jewish. To simply dislike someone from where they're from and what they could be is wrong. That would be the same as looking at our old family friends and lumping them into that group. I can't. Therefore I have to see people as individuals and try to not lump them together. It's a shame when someone from a group, any group, that ruins it for others. JMO.

  • Well said.

I mean, how would most of us regular Christians feel is we were constantly compared to- say- the Westboro Baptist Church.  Yes, they make the news, but they are not a good example of how the rest of us live our lives, they just make the most noise.

  • I think it's the same for most religions. Christians get a bad rep b/c of the ones that are shouting to everyone "follow this way or you will go straight to hell" and so forth. Same for your religion because a few bad apples got the news headline.

But I do have a question....and by this question you are going to realize that I am very uneducated when it comes to different religions, lol.

Does Islam=Muslim? Is it the same thing? I though Islamic and Muslim were different religions. Or is Muslim the name of a race, per say? Like not all Jews are Jewish...or maybe it's not all Jewish people are Jews...

Ugh...I really need to study up! haha.

  • No, the teachings are the same all the way through.
There are quotes that are taken out of context to make Muslims look bad. There is a part saying basically "If you are attacked, attack back" but it is taken out of context that say "Attack!"
